It's too bad OU doesn't have four Reggie Smiths. For the past 2 years, the Sooner secondary has played great. But I still get nervous when an opposing QB drops back to throw because I know they are gonna be throwing the ball wherever Reggie Smith is not. If only Smith could play every position in the secondary. It's not that the other D-backs are bad, far from it. It's just the comfort of knowing that your best defensive player, and also the Big 12 Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, is back there. Some experts say he is the best all-around athlete in the nation. I don't doubt that. Smith has been bounced back and forth over the last 2 years from corner to safety and now back to corner. That's his position. That's the position where he really shines.
Reggie Smith will certainly live up to the preseason acknowledgement. I predict he will be a finalist for the Thorpe, if not win it. Read more on Smith here...Newsok.com
